H-1B Electronic Registration Process Explained:
If you want to apply for H-1B visas for employees, you need to register them online first. This is for H-1B visas that have a limit (called the cap) and for those with higher degrees (like a master’s degree). Each person you want to register will cost $10.
This online registration makes things easier. It cuts down on paperwork and saves money for employers who need these H-1B visas.
Here’s how it works: Employers or their representatives have to give basic details about their company and each worker they want to register. This needs to be done during a specific time each year, lasting at least 14 days. After registrations are in, a selection process happens. Only those chosen can then apply for the H-1B visas.
You don’t have to register right when the period starts. Setting up an online account to do this is simple, and there are videos on the main website: https://www.uscis.gov/citizenship/apply-for-citizenship.
Update on FY 2024 H-1B Cap Registration
On March 27, 2023, they got enough registrations to fill the H-1B limit for 2024, including those with higher degrees. Later, they needed to pick more registrations to meet the number they set for the year. By July 31, 2023, they chose enough extra registrations and told the employers. They picked 77,600 in this second round.
They saw more people registering for 2024 than in the past years. This increase happened in different ways, like more registrations for each worker, and more workers with just one registration. The number of registrations has been growing since 2022.
Numbers by year 2021 to 2024 (up to July 31, 2023):
- In 2021, out of 274,237 registrations, we chose 124,415.
- In 2022, out of 308,613 registrations, we chose 131,924.
- In 2023, out of 483,927 registrations, we chose 127,600.
- In 2024, out of 780,884 registrations, we chose 188,400.
(Note: Some registrations weren’t counted because they were duplicates, cancelled, or didn’t pay properly.)
The initial choice for 2024 was less than previous years because tit was expected that more people would file petitions and more H-1B1 visas (a different type) would be approved.
