The Lethal Science of mRNA and Its Effects on Food and the Body

    3. Immune System Activation: mRNA can potentially activate the innate immune system, leading to unintended inflammatory responses. This requires careful design and modification of mRNA molecules to evade such immune detection while still maintaining their effectiveness.
    4. Delivery Systems: Efficient and targeted delivery of mRNA into the desired cells is crucial. This often necessitates the use of specialized delivery systems, like lipid nanoparticles, which themselves can pose challenges in terms of biocompatibility and potential side effects.
    5. Limited Duration of Effectiveness: The transient nature of mRNA means that its effects are not permanent. While this is advantageous for some applications (like vaccination), it limits its utility in other scenarios, such as in the treatment of chronic diseases where long-term expression of the therapeutic protein is needed.
    6. Manufacturing Complexity: The production of mRNA for therapeutic purposes is a complex and costly process. It requires high levels of purity and quality control, which can increase the cost and time required for development.
