Stan Gjermundson: ND Cowboy, Rancher, and Father of Rodeo Legend Brad Gjermundson

Stan Gjermundson was a true all-around cowboy, growing up ranching near Halliday, Marshall, and Taylor, where the land and livestock shaped both his work ethic and his love for rodeo. He was a natural in the arena, competing in multiple events and proving himself as a tough and talented competitor. But beyond the rodeo circuit, Stan was a family man, and that devotion was just as strong as his passion for the Western way of life.

Stan met his high school sweetheart, Sharon, at a young age, and together they built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and tradition. The couple married early and eventually settled in Marshall, where they raised two sons and two daughters. It was only natural that their children followed in their parents' footsteps. The rodeo lifestyle wasn’t just something they did—it was who they were. The Gjermundson boys became respected all-around cowboys and ranchers, carrying on their father’s legacy of grit and determination. But it was their eldest son, Brad, who made rodeo history. With a rare combination of skill, balance, and fearlessness, Brad Gjermundson went on to win four PRCA saddle-bronc riding world titles, etching his name among the greats of professional rodeo.

The Gjermundson family's story is one of perseverance, family ties, and the unbreakable bond between a cowboy and the land he loves. Through ranching, rodeo, and raising the next generation, they upheld the values that define the West—honor, resilience, and an enduring respect for tradition. Their legacy isn’t just written in rodeo record books; it lives on in the wide-open spaces of North Dakota, where the cowboy spirit still rides strong.
