One Man’s Mission to Save Lives by Inventing Easy-to-Use Anti-Choking Device

Lih went on to invent and become the CEO of LifeVac. He explains that one child dies from choking every five days - but anyone is at risk of choking and can be helped via the LifeVac.

LifeVac also can easily be used on the elderly, wheelchair bound, and heavier set. Arthur has donated many LifeVac devices to schools around the country and says he will not rest until there is one full year where no child dies from choking.

More on LifeVac:

Arthur Lih, alongside Dr. Brody and close colleagues, initiated LifeVac with a mission to provide a groundbreaking solution to choking emergencies. By establishing a development center in Springfield Gardens, NY, they focused on creating an upper airway clearing device that offers a safe and straightforward method for saving lives. There is no prescription needed, available for schools, firefighters/emts, hospitals, VA and military, and a tutorial for use, as well as Q&A, is located on their website.

Their ambition is not just innovation but a global impact, aiming to make LifeVac accessible worldwide as a vital tool in emergency situations where traditional methods may fail. For more information, visit LifeVac's website.

How to help someone choking:

Without a LifeVac, here is a concise list of steps to help someone who is choking:

  1. Determine if the person can speak or cough. If they can't, they need immediate help.
  2. Call for emergency medical assistance.
  3. Perform the Heimlich maneuver: Stand behind the person, wrap your arms around their waist, and place a fist above their navel. Grasp your fist with the other hand and perform a quick, upward thrust.
  4. Repeat these abdominal thrusts until the blockage is dislodged.
  5. If the person becomes unconscious, start CPR immediately.

For a complete guide and training on first aid for choking, it's advisable to attend a certified first aid course.
