Background on NFR,(National Finals Rodeo), known as The "Super Bowl of Rodeo":

Established in 1958, NFR crowns world champions in seven main rodeo events, including calf roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, team roping, and steer roping, with the latter usually held separately. The top fifteen earners in these categories compete for the title at the NFR.

Dallas was the first city to host the NFR in 1959, and it remained the host city until 1961 before moving to Los Angeles until 1964. Oklahoma City took over in 1965, drawing large crowds and maintaining the event until 1984, contributing significantly to local revenue. Las Vegas, Nevada, eventually outbid Oklahoma City for the event, despite the latter's consideration for a new venue.

The NFR's stint in Oklahoma City was marked by notable performances, including Freckles Brown's historic 1967 ride on the previously unconquerable bull, Tornado. Oklahoma has also hosted other significant rodeo championships, with the PRCA National Finals Steer Roping at the Lazy E Arena and the Women's National Finals Rodeo for several years. Additionally, the state is known for the International Finals Rodeo (IFR), organized by the International Professional Rodeo Association since 1969.
